Getting Started

SheetX is a Google Sheets add-on that extends the capabilities of your spreadsheets with powerful custom functions to transform data, manipulate arrays and text, perform calculations, and simplify everyday spreadsheet tasks without relying on complex formulas or scripts.

Whether you are a data analyst, business owner, student, or spreadsheet enthusiast, SheetX provides practical functions to help you work more efficiently in Google Sheets.

This guide will walk you through installing SheetX, using your first custom function, and exploring the available documentation.

Installation

To get started with SheetX, you first need to install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

  1. Open the SheetX Google Workspace Marketplace Page.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to grant the required permissions.
  4. Open a Google Sheets spreadsheet to start using SheetX.

Once installed, SheetX is available in Google Sheets through the Extensions menu.

INFO

If you don’t see the SheetX custom functions, click Extensions → SheetX → About SheetX. Google Sheets requires you to authorize the add-on before its custom functions can appear and be used in your spreadsheet.

Using SheetX

SheetX functions work directly inside your spreadsheet, just like built-in Google Sheets functions. You can enter them into a cell, provide the required arguments, and use the returned results in your data.

Explore SheetX Functions

SheetX provides custom functions organized into categories to help you find the right function for your task.

Array Functions

Work with arrays and ranges to manipulate, combine, and compare spreadsheet data such as SX_FIRST, SX_LAST, SX_UNION, SX_INTERSECT, and SX_DIFFERENCE.

Working with Arrays

Many SheetX functions support ranges and arrays, allowing you to process multiple values at once rather than writing a separate formula for every row.

For example, you can use array-based functions to compare lists, identify duplicates, or combine datasets. This can help reduce repetitive formulas and make your spreadsheets easier to maintain.

Check the documentation for each function to understand its supported input formats and whether it returns a single value or an array.

Troubleshooting

If a SheetX function does not work as expected, consider the following:

  • #NAME? error: Check that the function name is spelled correctly and that SheetX is installed and available in your spreadsheet.
  • #VALUE! error: Verify that the arguments have the expected data types and formats.
  • #ERROR! error: Custom function error: The provided argument may be invalid or unsupported.
  • Unexpected results: Review the function's documentation to confirm its syntax, optional arguments, and expected behavior.
  • Function not recognized: Refresh your spreadsheet and confirm that the add-on is installed and enabled.

If the issue persists, consult the relevant function documentation or contact the SheetX support team.
